DODGE CHARGER & CORONET

The 1966-1967 Dodge Charger & Coronet are two (or one- depending on your point of view) of my favorite cars of all time.
I love the lines - edgy and angular. Especially when compared to the Ford and GM cars of the time.
The early Charger was essentially a Coronet with hidden head lamps, opened rear wheelwheels and a fastback roofline.
Not much different than the Coronet it was based on. Both cars recieved a major restyling in 1968. Many say the '68-'70

are the best looking Chargers (or muscle cars) of all time. Although the '68-'70s are on my top 10 list, the early Chargers
are stillmy faves. Like most boys growning up in the sixties many of my toys were Hot Wheels and Matchbox. All the kids
up and down the streets of the various neighborhoods I lived in growing up had Hot Wheels collections. These cars shaped
my lifelong tastes in automobiles.

1967 Charger & Coronet Gassers Models. I used the Monogram '55Chevy kit (you can find it anywhere) and AMT Chevy II Rat
Packer Street Freaks kit to get the straight axles, stacks, tires and wheels. Even though the Rat Packer kit has plastic tires, they
paint better than rubber for White Wall Slick. Kit bashing is good..

THE REAL D.B. PETTY CHARGER-
Chris Darland of Chris' Garage in Medford Oregon and The Dive Bombers Car Club have begun the
build-up of a my 1966 Dodge Charger as the D.B. Petty clone car for the prequel to Hot Rod Girls Save The World. Aptly entitled
TheLegend Of D.B. Petty. This car will eventually be a full on Gasser style '60's Drag Racer with an A/FX slant. Yeah I know Dodge
never made an A/FX Charger, in fact things were moving so quickly with Drag Racing Technology in the mid-60's that the A/FX
cars were replaced by Funny Cars by 1967. D.B.'s Charger has background though, built from the remains of his 1941
Willys, D.B. opted for the brand new Charger because of it's HEMI. He proceeded to cut it up into a race car even before the
first payment was made to the Dodge Dealership. Cool story huh? Wait until you see the movie.

Using pictures of my 1/24th scale Dodge Charger model and Photoshop, I created this prop for my first feature film
Hot Rod Girls Save The World. This is a fake article about one of the characters drag racing fathers "D.B. Petty."

My latest 1/25th scale creation- what I would drive in the current German Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters series in Europe.

The MPC Kit version of the Kustom Charger that stared in Thunder Alley. Man- that is one ugly car.

What if Dodge had made their own version of the Chevrolet El Camino and Ford Ranchero based on the Coronet & Charger body styles back in 1967? This is what it might look like. The" Ramcharger" name was used in the '80's for the an early Dodge SUV, although it obviously came from the famous Dodge Drag Race Team "The Ramchargers."

A letter about the New Charger Super Bee that I wrote- published in the August 2006 issue of Hot Rod
Magazine - D.A. Sebasstian

The 1968-1970 Dodge Charger has been the car of choice for many a Hollywood badass.
The Charger is the ultimate statement in American automobiles. It looks
sinister and muscular just sitting at the curb. It's not as righteous as
a Ford Mustang or nostalgic like a '55 Chevy. It's the underdogs car (check out Bullit with
the goodguy- Steve McQueen driving a Mustang and the badguys driving a Charger).
In Blue Velvet Frank, the ultimate movie badguy, drives a Charger through his
nightmarish "Joyride". Vin Diesels character in Fast And The Furious (not my favorite car flick)
destroys a '70 Charger ( I heard rumoired that it was the same one from Blade with a new

grill) at the end. Enough of these cars were destroyed by The Dukes TV Shows. Someone
needs to make a completely new aftermarket '68/'69 Charger, like the Camaros. I guess it's
just a matter of someone manufacturing the bodyshell, like Dynacorn does for the Camaro.
